[ It takes a really long time for Knives to answer. Like over an hour?? But to be fair he wasn't expecting Vash to actually contact him given the last conversation they had. While he is surprised he does suppose given the mechanics of this annoying place that Vash would contact him eventually.
He's found himself wandering through the segments he's least familiar with so Spring, Autumn, and Winter all things that he had read and learned about but would never actually see thanks once again to humans. The grass beneath his feet when he first stepped out into Spring's segment was...enjoyable and so he's found himself there more often than in his apartment some days. ]
The spring segment - the abandoned farm. If you're coming to try and change my mind don't bother. [ Rude, Knives!! ]
[Honestly, he's not sure what he'd expected when he messaged knives. It would make sense for his brother to ignore him, and he's half prepared for that. So when he gets an answer, his feelings are mixed.
Spring, huh?]
Ok.
[just that. Ok. he doesn't even tell anyone where he's going before he heads exactly where his brother is. It's not instant though, and he only hopes that by the time he gets there, his brother hasn't left. There's an itch, an urgent tick of anxiety that spurs him towards seeking Knives out to make sure that he's...ok? It's complicated.]
[ Knives had half a mind to leave, but honestly, Vash would have just tried to find him regardless. The tenacity of his brother sometimes annoyed him and rather than put on a game of cat and mouse he will stay put and wait, wondering what exactly Vash could want.
The glimmer of his suit from the sun's rays makes it easy to tell where he is. Although he's not actually wearing the hood, surprisingly. When alone he had little reason to wear it and the place was secluded enough that Knives could relax...a little?? A strange concept for him but he is trying. ] What's this about?
[ His voice is at least calm sounding, for now. How long is that going to last?? We just don't know... ]
[Once he's close enough, Vash's approach slows. Maybe it's caution or apprehension, Vash isn't sure. But what he is sure about is watching Knives, his gaze tracing over what he can see of his brother's hoodless face. Does he show any of the symptoms he's heard about when it's been too long? Vash's hands clench then unclench as he walks through the grass, boots making soft sounds with each step.
He only stays standing for a minute before he also sits down, an arms length from Knives as he finally tears his gaze away to look out in the same direction as his brother. It's funny, somehow, that this is the segment Knives is in. It's the same one that Vash found so appealing when he arrived, riding on the airship.
He knows Knives has asked him a question, but Vash doesn't know how to answer. Instead, he shrugs one shoulder, bringing his knees up to his chest to wrap one arm around them.]
[ Well, they are twins so they're bound to share some similar feelings toward things Vash enjoying this segment alongside Knives seems fitting. He might shift in his spot, head-turning, a quizzical and almost guarded look flickering across his face as Vash sits down at an arm's length next to him. He does turn to look away, back out at the grassy knolls and rolling hills before them, a somewhat distant and lonely expression seen only in his eyes. The symptoms, if he has any, won't be noticeable thanks to his suit. But that spar he had a few days ago seemed to help a good deal. ] Something we should have back home.
[ Their own personal Eden for them and their sisters. Would it look and feel like this he wonders? It's much more vibrant in reality than even the pictures could ever truly show. ]
Mm... [He doesn't disagree with wanting something like this at home, not really. But not at the expense of the people who also crashed with them, because of them. He exhales a long breath, not wanting to rock back into an old discussion where neither of them are willing to budge.
Reminiscent of the way his younger self made room for himself on that piano bench, Vash slowly shifts closer, moving so he's half as far as he was beforehand. He extends his human hand out, palm up, between himself and his brother. It's not really a peace offering, but maybe a silent request. One that Knives can reject if he wants.]
[ Honestly the lack of a retort or response is probably for the best. They seem to just keep going in circles and that's not something he wanted to do today. Knives does look a bit perplexed when Vash moves closer and...offers him his hand. Ah. So this is what he came here for. He's about to make a biting remark that he doesn't need the other's help, that he's fine, but it goes unsaid. There's an unspoken uncertainty to his own thoughts as his hand twitches against his leg. How long has it been since he's actually...touched someone?
He can't exactly remember but the request is looked at with a stoic stare. After a brief moment, he will acquiesce and offer up his own hand in a mostly begrudging manner. He'll take Vash's hand into his own and the effects of the touch are immediate. The energy it provides is, indeed, true. However, this is not what he was expecting to happen when Vash texted him.
It's strange and really uncomfortable in a way he can't explain. The calmness of it, the lack of anger on his own part, and this sudden pain in his chest? All things he's unaccustomed to and certainly not within the realm of his comfort zone. He's putting up with it only because Vash is the one to have initiated it first. ]
[Vash isn't exactly super touchy with a whole lot of people either. There's Wolfwood, and Nen, but on some level Vash lets himself run with the minimal amount needed like some kind of self-sacrificial punishment. Not that Knives of all people needs to know that.
He just exhales a shuddering breath the moment their hands touch, and a second later he's shifting his grasp to lace their fingers together. When they were younger they were always physical with each other whether they were getting along or squabbling as siblings do. He didn't realize until this moment that this is a sensation he could miss, or want. He didn't realize the connection would be so cruel as to flash play older, happier memories so clearly.
It's shocking that he has nothing to say. Not right now, anyway.]
[ It's strange that this place would be the way that they actually come into contact with one another again. Knives doesn't know what to make of it as his head turns to look down at their now intertwined hands, and then back at Vash once more, before his eyes look elsewhere again. His expression is purely unreadable at this point but it's obvious in his posture that this is difficult. It does remind him of simpler days when they were younger, but also days when they were both so very naive and trusting of the humans around them.
It's some sort of cruel joke that he finally has Vash back and they're on an entirely different planet, unable to actually count this as a success in most regards, and yet he doesn't pull his hand away knowing all of that. He hates it. He honestly hates this feeling because it's only when he's with Vash that he really feels that deep-seated loneliness within himself. That longing and yearning to be together is a daily constant in his life and this place is just making it all the more apparent. His hand might twitch slightly beneath Vash's as he shifts in his spot, his expression turning into an annoyed frown before he gently pries his hand away. He feels the effect immediately, the sudden lack of power ebbing through him is profound and it makes the emptiness feel even deeper than before. And just like that he returns to being guarded once again. As if all those memories of their childhood onboard ship 5 just get locked away again and he's back to being closed off. ] That's enough, Vash.
[ There's no edge to his voice as he speaks his twin's name calmly this time. He doesn't want any more of it, can't take any more of it. Playing pretend like they hadn't just gotten into a fight a mere few days ago. Or to just forget the betrayals he's faced back home while they were here. The idea is laughable at best. Vash would never see eye to eye with him but that fact was still not something he would accept. ]
